Exactly one year ago today I froze my eggs. So, I have 11 frozen 39 year old eggs on ice. Freezing my eggs made turning the big 4-0 this year a little bit easier. Check! That crossed one thing (a very big one) off my list of pre-40 “things to do.” And like everything, a little bit of time changes your perspective. The ultrasounds, hormone shots, blood work, and all the other pre-procedure work ups activities don’t seem so bad in retrospect. In fact, the whole procedure is only 12 days. Less than two weeks of prep for the possibility of having a child some day. When you think of it that way, freezing your eggs is an easy decision.
I can’t say that the rest of my “to do” list is getting any smaller. I am still confused about the direction of my career. I still want to meet Mr. Right or even Mr. Right now. I still drink too much coffee. And I still want to visit Argentina. But, all of these things do not have an expiration date or a sharp inflection point at age 35. I still have time to slowly work through the rest of my goals. However, as my AMH and FSH levels indicated, I could not wait any longer to freeze my eggs.
